There is a natural way of helping alleviate a toothache or a baby's sensitive gums and that is using fresh basil leaves. They smell great; they taste great; they are natural; and they leave your mouth feeling tingly. There really is no down side to this at all.

1

This could not be any easier than just chewing on a Basil leaf. Actually, that is exactly what you will be doing.
*Pick out a fresh piece of Basil and chew it in the area of your tooth ache or area of sensitivity. You will feel the tingling almost immediately. It will only be effective temporarily so if you are having chronic dental issues, you need to see your dentist as soon as possible to avoid further dental/medical issues.

2

If your baby is teething, just grab their pacifier or chew toy and crumble a handful of Basil leaves over the toy. Ensure that you pick off any leaves prior to giving to infant to prevent from choking. It will sooth their gums as soon as they chew on their toy and it's safer than whiskey.

3

I find that Basil lasts longer than the taste of fresh Mint so I usually break off a leaf before I leave the house to make sure that I have fresh breath longer. The fresh Basil is also handy for cooking as well.

Tips & Warnings

Make sure that you nor your baby is allergic to Basil. You can take a leaf and rub it against your skin to see if there is any irritation in that area shortly after; you can do this for your baby as well.

You will need to observe your child to ensure that they do not have any allergic reactions to the Basil. It is a natural herb, however, everyone is different and reacts differently to various herbs. I recommend not introducing them to new foods for at least a week after having them chew on their Basil toys. This way you can see if they are having an allergic reaction to the herb rather than something they ate.

Do not give your child a fresh Basil leaf to chew on because it can easily get lodged in their throat and could block their airway. The essence on the toy, alone, is enough.

If you are having chronic tooth pain, see your dentist ASAP! This is not a remedy to cure; it's a remedy to sooth. Good luck!

Some symptoms of an ear infection are: discomfort, fever, a thick fluid buildup in the ear, trouble sleeping, trouble eating, vomiting, and irritability. I encourage the use of natural remedies in the event that the infection is not serious. If the infection persists or worsens then seek medical care immediately.

2. Clean the ear with a Qtip until it comes out clean.

4. Apply a small amount of apple cider vinegar to another Qtip and very gently apply throughout the ear. This should help relieve non serious infection, and you should see results within a short period of time. I had applied this trick on my husband and his ear infection had completely cleared up within two hours.

Essentially the ingredients are the same, but the taste and nutrition is so much better!

1. Boil about 5 quarts of water in a large pot and add in the chicken bouillon.
You can add in the chicken either frozen or defrosted. Just make sure that you remove the skin off it before you cut it up. I usually just put it in frozen and then remove the skin just prior to shredding and removing it from the bone, then I discard the skin and bone and return the chicken to the pot.

3. I have a food processor that I use to finely chop my vegetables, but you can choose to cut your veggies any size you like for desired heartiness. Add in the carrots, celery, and onion to the boiling water.

4. Once your vegetables are mostly tender then you may add your noodles. I prefer smaller noodles with this soup so I can fit more on my spoon at once; this is why I chose the medium noodles. Yes yes, I know I'm on break, but it was too good to pass up. There are a lot of us who are angry at others for things that have been done or with things that are being done, and it is natural to feel compelled to express our anger with slander and animosity. We know that harboring anger towards another is not good for us, but we are also making the situation worse by wishing ill on others or by outwardly recognizing the mistakes of others; this is inhibiting their spiritual growth by concreting them with that reproach. As difficult as it may be to surpass the hostility and wish happiness for our foes, it is necessary for our well-being as it is theirs. God bless you in this journey. :)

The Bridge ~ Reminder #78
Backbiting

Pretend you're above it, looking down from a mountaintop

It's real easy nowadays to find yourself in conversations where people are talking about other people, saying things they probably wouldn't say if the other person was there. What most people don't understand is that gossiping has the same effect on those we talk about that sickness does. It works against them. Just as when we talk about Aunt Flora's bad knees and, in doing so, we make her knees worse, so do we make things worse for people we backbite. But with backbiting, there is an added detriment: we make things worse for ourselves, as well.

It works like this: If we are talking about a neighbor, for instance, it is because we've first been entertaining thoughts about that person. As you're learning, thoughts are invisible but very potent, nonetheless. And they are received - always - by whoever we're thinking about. So, if we're thinking about being wronged by our neighbor, we are actually reinforcing our neighbor's "wrongful" behavior. We're adding to it, and here's the kicker. If, when we are backbiting or gossiping about the neighbor, we are standing in opposition to them in anyway, we are also becoming just like them.

You've seen this often. When someone is complaining about another person you know, if you look closely, you can see them beginning to act just like the person they're complaining about.

The best thing to remember in these situations is that we become like whoever (or whatever) we place our attention upon. It's the Law, whether we are aware of it or not. Once we truly understand that we're becoming like the person we're backbiting - and that we are also reinforcing their discordant behavior - shouldn't that give us pause to reconsider our own actions?

The deepest desire
of every one of us
is to know that we are loved,
to know that our world will feed us
and give us all that we need
just as it freely surrounds us
with the air we breathe
the water we drink
the land we walk upon
Constantly giving to us
like a parent to a child

We harm ourselves and others in ways we don't realize when we backbite or gossip. Wouldn't it be better if we were to use our precious time and energy on a creative endeavor that fulfills us and makes us happier? And what would happen if, instead of giving in to our fears of lack and losing (which is why we gossip in the first place), we were to think kindly thoughts of our neighbors? That's what will give us the results we truly desire for ourselves.

I was greeted with something today that I wanted to share.

Anything is Possible
If there was ever a time to dare,
to make a difference,
to embark on something worth doing,
IT IS NOW.
Not for any grand cause, necessarily. . .
but for something that tugs at your heart,
something that's your inspiration,
something that's your dream.
You owe it to yourself
to make your days here count.
HAVE FUN.
DIG DEEP.
STRETCH.
DREAM BIG.
Know, though, that things worth doing
seldom come easy.
There will be good days.
And there will be bad days.
There will be times when you want to turn around,
pack it up,
and call it quits.
Those times tell you
that you are pushing yourself,
that you are not afraid to learn by trying.
PERSIST.
Because with an idea,
determination,
and the right tools,
you can do great things.
Let your instincts,
your intellect,
and your heart,
guide you.
TRUST.
Believe in the incredible power of the human mind.
Of doing something that makes a difference.
Of working hard.
Of laughing and hoping.
Of lazy afternoons.
Of lasting friends.
Of all the things that will cross your path this year.
The start of something new
brings the hope of something great,
ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE.

Was any of this familiar? How often are we so rushed that we don't take the time to consider the well-being of others? How often are we short with the lady at the checkout stand because the scanner won't scan an item and she has to call the manager? How about the truck driver making a safe turn and taking up two lanes of traffic to do so? Those are just a couple of examples, but I'm certain that this video probably helped bring to mind a certain situation that you've been in recently that has required a bit of your patience to deal with. How did you handle it? With grace and understanding or with intolerance and hostility? It's easier said than done at first, but patience can be learned once we start viewing others as imperfect creatures and practicing tolerance whenever something happens that is out of our control. Love comes from the understanding that we are dealing with our own trials and a level of compassion and care should be applied before we react too quickly. Mom, this song means a lot to me because it describes you perfectly. I love you more than anything and I hope you know that you are my hero. I am the person that I am today because of you and I see you in our children as well. You are so incredibly beautiful and I hope that you realize the impact that you have left on us and the rest of the world. We appreciate you for everything you are and we love you so much! Suddenly, the son falls, hurts himself and screams: "AAAhhhhhhhhhhh!!!"

To his surprise, he hears the voice repeating,

somewhere in the mountain: "AAAhhhhhhhhhhh!!!"

Curious, he yells: "Who are you?"

He receives the answer: "Who are you?"

Angered at the response, he screams: "Coward!"

He receives the answer: "Coward!"

He looks to his father and asks: "What's going on?"

The father smiles and says: "My son, pay attention."

And then he screams to the mountain: "I admire you!"

The voice answers: "I admire you!"

Again the man screams: "You are a champion!"

The voice answers: "You are a champion!"

The boy is surprised, but does not understand.

Then the father explains: "People call this ECHO, but really this is LIFE.

It gives you back everything you say or do.

Our life is simply a reflection of our actions.

If you want more love in the world, create more love in your heart.

If you want more competence in your team, improve your competence.

This relationship applies to everything, in all aspects of life;

Life will give you back everything you have given to it.

YOUR LIFE IS NOT A COINCIDENCE.
IT'S A REFLECTION OF YOU!
A friend of mine has a good philosophy aligned with this message. She says that she sees everyone as children, since essentially we are God's children, and she can't imagine herself getting mad at a child. How wise and how true?! I hope you take something from this video. :)

Trail Mix

2 c walnuts

1 c almonds

1/4 c flaxseeds (doesn't do much for the texture, but I add it for the added Omega 3)

1 c dried cranberries

1/2 c raisins (or I just buy a mix of dried fruit)

1-2 Tbs grapeseed oil (depending on how 'nutty' I go because I like a light layer on all the nuts)

I use a special type of salt called 'biosalt', but I think Kosher salt is the next best thing. I use about 1/2 tsp.
Put it all in a container and shake it up. It tastes best whenever I chill it for a few hours and really let the flavors mix. Great for on the go snacks. Adjust the oil and salt to taste.

The grapeseed oil is great for you because it has Omega 3 and Omega 6 plus it is almost half the fat as olive oil. It's a lot lighter also so you don't need as much of it. :)
It can be difficult to overcome the struggles and tragedies in our lives and sometimes 'Everything happens for a reason" isn't comforting enough to get us through to the next day. I pray that these words speak to you if you are the grieving heart or that you share this with those who may need it.
This is a great story, regardless, and sends a good message. We never really give too much thought about how our selfless service to one another really leaves an impact. Something as simple as opening a door for someone or letting a person take the closer parking spot, those things add up. As you read this story, I hope you reflect on the deeds that were generously done for you recently and I pray that you become thankful and humbled by those sincere people. Don't forget to pay it forward!

The Power of Kindness
The year was 1863, on a spring day in Northern Pennsylvania. A poor boy was selling goods door to door to pay his way through school. He realized he had only a dime left, and that he was hungry. So he decided he would ask for a meal at the next house. However, he lost his nerve when a lovely young woman opened the door.

Instead of a meal, he asked for a drink of water. She thought he looked hungry and so she brought him a large glass of milk. He drank it slowly, and then asked, "How much do I owe you?"
"You don't owe me anything," she replied. "Mother has taught us never to accept pay for a kindness." He said, "Then I thank you from my heart." As Howard Kelly left that house, he not only felt stronger physically, but his faith in God and man was strengthened also. He had been ready to give up and quit.

Years later, that young woman became critically ill. The local doctors were baffled. They finally sent her to the big city, where they called in specialists to study her rare disease.
Dr. Howard Kelly was called in for the consultation. When he heard the name of the town she came from, he went down the hall of the hospital to her room. Dressed in his doctor's gown, he went in to see her. He recognized her at once. He went back to the consultation room determined to do his best to save her life. From that day, he gave special attention to the case.

After a long struggle, the battle was won. Dr. Kelly requested from the business office to pass the final billing to him for approval. He looked at it, then wrote something on the edge, and the bill was sent to her room. She feared to open it, for she was sure it would take the rest of her life to pay for it all. Finally, she looked, and something caught her attention on the side of the bill. She read these words:

"PAID IN FULL WITH ONE GLASS OF MILK..."

(Signed)

Dr. Howard Kelly*

*Dr. Howard Kelly was a distinguished physician who, in 1895, founded the Johns Hopkins Division of Gynecologic Oncology at Johns Hopkins University. According to Dr. Kelly's biographer, Audrey Davis, the doctor was on a walking trip through Northern Pennsylvania one spring day when he stopped by a farm house for a drink of water.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Secret Santa II hit the streets Tuesday in a long-standing Kansas City tradition of handing out $100 bills — sometimes several at a time — to unsuspecting strangers in thrift stores, food pantries and shelters.

Some people gasped in surprise. Some wanted to know if the $100 bill the tall man in the red cap offered was fake. Others wept.

Secret Santa II has seen a lot of reactions since taking over where his mentor, Kansas City's original Secret Santa, Larry Stewart, left off when he died in 2007 at age 58. Like Stewart, who gave away more than $1 million to strangers each December in mostly $100 bills, this Secret Santa prefers to stay anonymous.

A fake white beard taped to his face, Secret Santa II handed out about $10,000 in total Tuesday. Recipients included a police officer with terminal cancer, a homeless man pushing a rickety old shopping cart, an 81-year-old woman who had recently told her 27 grandchildren she wouldn't be able to afford any Christmas gifts, and Bernadette Turner, a 32-year-old unemployed mother of two.

"It's hard to come by," Turner said looking in disbelief at the $200 Secret Santa had given her.

Then one of Santa's "elves" — another tall man in a red cap — sidled up to next to Turner, asked a few questions, and handed her an additional $100. Turner, whose children are 3 and 8, was overcome.

"I can only afford one gift for each child. But now ...." she said, wiping tears from her cheeks and reaching out for a hug.

"Do you believe in Santa Claus?" Capt. Ray Wynn of the Kansas City, Mo., Fire Department, asked from a few feet away. Wynn had followed Stewart on many "sleigh rides" around the country and now follows this Secret Santa, providing stories, memories and amusing sound effects.

"I do now," Turner said. "I do now."

Secret Santa II took over from Stewart about the time the recession hit and the economy went into a tailspin. Like Stewart, this Secret Santa doesn't talk about his own finances, where those $100 bills come from and if — like for so many people now — they've been harder to come by.

Come December, he just fills his pockets with money, dons his red cap and heads out looking for people to make really happy.

He will likely hand out about $40,000 this December. He says he'll go "till the money runs out."

"The recession, unemployment. This is the time you don't want to stop. You don't want to back off," he said.

He walked up to Peggy Potter, 59, of Kansas City, Kan., who was looking at some framed prints at a thrift store. He made some small talk, put his arm around her and within minutes she was crying. Her son died about a year and a half ago. Her husband died in July and her daughter died soon after that.

"I'm just ... today's been a rough day for me, just thinking about my loved ones," she said. "I've been having a hard time paying for all the funerals."

Santa gave her $200, listened more, hugged her, and told her the poster she was holding had special meaning. It was a photo of two hands, one large, one small. Words printed at the bottom could have been written by Secret Santa, the original or the current one.
I was able to do the fun stuff of picking out what clothes and toys would go to each family and wrapping the gifts for them. I browsed many items and I expected (since every item was donated) that there would be a lot of dollar store toys or thin items of clothing that would most likely tear with the first washing, but there wasn't a single item that appeared as if it were just randomly purchased without generous thought. I almost cried because I could almost see every toy and clothing item being carefully selected. I could see the person scrutinizing over whether the toy would be something fun or educational or whether it would be something to bring a happy tear to the eyes of an excited child and an appreciative mother who just wants the best for her children, but can't afford to provide that for them. It's overwhelming to imagine the different situations and to wrap your mind around all the unconditional love that everyone is pouring into this. It leaves you speechless to be in the middle of it all.

For those of you that do not understand what 'Positive Energy' means...what I described is a perfect example of positive energy. Taking the best parts of you and sharing it unconditionally with the world; being completely selfless and genuinely using God's grace to take care of those in need even if you are one of them also. God made us to be so special and it would be careless to let our gifts go to waste. I pray that everyone takes the time to be completely selfless at least once a day. It doesn't necessarily have to be joining a charity either; sometimes the smallest good deed can be what brings about the greatest happiness to someone else.

Christmas time is the best time of year to find organizations and charities because there tend to be more during these holidays; however, I encourage this kind of selfless devotion of time and energy throughout the year as well. Get in contact with your local churches and organizations and find out how you can make a difference to others in your community. If there aren't any activities going on then lead your own cause or reach out to as many as possible on your own. Another way of helping would be to step out of yourself and pay attention to friends, family, or even a complete stranger who wears a mark of sadness over them. You could really make someone's day by simply being a shoulder to cry on or even bring a lasting smile to someone with a witty joke or two. The possibilities are endless and every deed requires so little, but the rewards are so grand. God bless everyone!
God bless!
Positive*Energyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01591330889666306514noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-549381332383935077.post-51689431781869325522010-12-05T15:36:00.000-08:002010-12-05T15:36:05.958-08:00Unseen gifts poem (Untitled and author unknown)
You gave on the way a pleasant smile

This is a subject that's always near and dear to my heart. I'm going to share something very personal because it goes along with this video, and I cried my eyes out once I watched it. My mom and I were homeless at one point, very briefly, but we started out in a station wagon when I was real young. Eventually we upgraded to a broken down trailer in a junk yard. I remember sleeping in the car, but not very vividly; I do, however, remember the junk yard and it was one of the greatest times in my life. My toys were the broken down bicycle without any wheels or the old school bus loaded with garbage or the wide array of classic cars left out to rot. I amused myself with things that I found just lying around and I used my imagination to entertain me and I never once felt that I needed more. The only time that I was hurt was when we only had enough food to feed me and my mom would eat whatever I didn't finish. She worked three jobs to get us out of that situation, but it took a very long time. I didn't know then, but Mom only ate Gerber food because it was all that she could afford because my table scraps, alone, were not enough to sustain her. We stood in the lines at the food bank and I used to make friends with everyone around me. I played with the homeless guy and I was the most giddy little girl whenever Mom and I would get free food from strangers. I didn't understand at the time, but I understand now. My mom was tormented with our poverty, but I was having the time of my life. I loved that junk yard, I enjoyed sleeping next to my mom in the car, I enjoyed meeting those humble strangers. My mom made sure that I was always taken care of and life, for me, was RICH. So when I saw this video, especially the ending, I couldn't help but to be torn up inside. When you have nothing, something is everything; when you have everything something is nothing. So many of us live in abundance and yet we remain unhappy. I pray that you look upon your life with excitement and joy each day even during times when it feels as if you have nothing. I pray that you reach your hand out to those in need and share your love with others, even if love is all you can give. I pray that you are thankful for everything that God provides for you and that you make use of all your blessings. I pray that you never look down on another nor that you believe yourself greater in any way. I pray for humanity to be rich in life and love and laughter, not only material wealth. I pray that everyone sees the beauty in every situation and knows that everything happens in life for a reason. I pray for many things, but know that I pray for humanity every day and my prayers are answered every day; it is just up to others to receive it.
