There is a natural way of helping alleviate a toothache or a baby's sensitive gums and that is using fresh basil leaves. They smell great; they taste great; they are natural; and they leave your mouth feeling tingly. There really is no down side to this at all.

    This could not be any easier than just chewing on a Basil leaf. Actually, that is exactly what you will be doing.
    *Pick out a fresh piece of Basil and chew it in the area of your tooth ache or area of sensitivity. You will feel the tingling almost immediately. It will only be effective temporarily so if you are having chronic dental issues, you need to see your dentist as soon as possible to avoid further dental/medical issues.

    If your baby is teething, just grab their pacifier or chew toy and crumble a handful of Basil leaves over the toy. Ensure that you pick off any leaves prior to giving to infant to prevent from choking. It will sooth their gums as soon as they chew on their toy and it's safer than whiskey.

    I find that Basil lasts longer than the taste of fresh Mint so I usually break off a leaf before I leave the house to make sure that I have fresh breath longer. The fresh Basil is also handy for cooking as well.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Make sure that you nor your baby is allergic to Basil. You can take a leaf and rub it against your skin to see if there is any irritation in that area shortly after; you can do this for your baby as well.
    • You will need to observe your child to ensure that they do not have any allergic reactions to the Basil. It is a natural herb, however, everyone is different and reacts differently to various herbs. I recommend not introducing them to new foods for at least a week after having them chew on their Basil toys. This way you can see if they are having an allergic reaction to the herb rather than something they ate.
    • Do not give your child a fresh Basil leaf to chew on because it can easily get lodged in their throat and could block their airway. The essence on the toy, alone, is enough.
    • If you are having chronic tooth pain, see your dentist ASAP! This is not a remedy to cure; it's a remedy to sooth. Good luck!


  • How to Naturally Get Rid of An Ear Infection

    An ear infection is commonly a result of an upper respiratory infection, and can get somewhat serious if not taken care of properly. Some symptoms of an ear infection are: discomfort, fever, a thick fluid buildup in the ear, trouble sleeping, trouble eating, vomiting, and irritability. I encourage the use of natural remedies in the event that the infection is not serious. If the infection persists or worsens then seek medical care immediately.

    While lying on your side pour a capful of peroxide into the infected ear and allow it to sit for about 8-10 minutes. Use the rag to collect the used peroxide and to dry the ear.



    2. Clean the ear with a Qtip until it comes out clean.

    3. Apply a small amount of olive oil to a Qtip and gently rotate it inside your ear. This is to coat the ear and prevent it from burning once you apply the apple cider vinegar.


    4. Apply a small amount of apple cider vinegar to another Qtip and very gently apply throughout the ear. This should help relieve non serious infection, and you should see results within a short period of time. I had applied this trick on my husband and his ear infection had completely cleared up within two hours.

    Tips & Warnings

    • I also heat a vitamin E capsule in the microwave for about 10 seconds and burst the oil into the infected ear before bedtime, and then clean it out in the morning. Vitamin E also has great healing properties and helps to draw out the infection.
    • If you suspect an infection, ensure that you are paying attention to all the various symptoms to make sure you can find out what you are dealing with. Do not assume that you have the correct diagnosis if only one or two of the symptoms are present.

    How to Make a Healthy Homemade Chicken Noodle Soup

    I decided to make my own recipe for chicken noodle soup after I read the nutritional information on the back of a Campbell's soup can and decided that 890mg of salt per 1/2 cup of condensed soup is just too high for my taste. Essentially the ingredients are the same, but the taste and nutrition is so much better!

    1. Boil about 5 quarts of water in a large pot and add in the chicken bouillon.

     
    2. You can add in the chicken either frozen or defrosted. Just make sure that you remove the skin off it before you cut it up. I usually just put it in frozen and then remove the skin just prior to shredding and removing it from the bone, then I discard the skin and bone and return the chicken to the pot.
    3. I have a food processor that I use to finely chop my vegetables, but you can choose to cut your veggies any size you like for desired heartiness. Add in the carrots, celery, and onion to the boiling water.
     
     
    4. Once your vegetables are mostly tender then you may add your noodles. I prefer smaller noodles with this soup so I can fit more on my spoon at once; this is why I chose the medium noodles. Also try for a noodle that is made 'all natural' so you know that the noodles haven't been chemically treated.

    5. Serve and enjoy. I calculated my recipe tonight and there was less than 300 calories per bowl and only about 35g of salt in the whole pot. The chicken and vegetables made up most of the flavor by themselves!

    Backbiting-Article from the Intenders of the Highest Good

    I got this in my email today and I felt that I needed to share. Yes yes, I know I'm on break, but it was too good to pass up. There are a lot of us who are angry at others for things that have been done or with things that are being done, and it is natural to feel compelled to express our anger with slander and animosity. We know that harboring anger towards another is not good for us, but we are also making the situation worse by wishing ill on others or by outwardly recognizing the mistakes of others; this is inhibiting their spiritual growth by concreting them with that reproach. As difficult as it may be to surpass the hostility and wish happiness for our foes, it is necessary for our well-being as it is theirs. God bless you in this journey. :)

    Backbiting

    It's real easy nowadays to find yourself in conversations where people are talking about other people, saying things they probably wouldn't say if the other person was there. What most people don't understand is that gossiping has the same effect on those we talk about that sickness does. It works against them. Just as when we talk about Aunt Flora's bad knees and, in doing so, we make her knees worse, so do we make things worse for people we backbite. But with backbiting, there is an added detriment: we make things worse for ourselves, as well.

    It works like this: If we are talking about a neighbor, for instance, it is because we've first been entertaining thoughts about that person. As you're learning, thoughts are invisible but very potent, nonetheless. And they are received - always - by whoever we're thinking about. So, if we're thinking about being wronged by our neighbor, we are actually reinforcing our neighbor's "wrongful" behavior. We're adding to it, and here's the kicker. If, when we are backbiting or gossiping about the neighbor, we are standing in opposition to them in anyway, we are also becoming just like them.

    You've seen this often. When someone is complaining about another person you know, if you look closely, you can see them beginning to act just like the person they're complaining about.

    The best thing to remember in these situations is that we become like whoever (or whatever) we place our attention upon. It's the Law, whether we are aware of it or not. Once we truly understand that we're becoming like the person we're backbiting - and that we are also reinforcing their discordant behavior - shouldn't that give us pause to reconsider our own actions?

    Constantly giving to us
    like a parent to a child
    We harm ourselves and others in ways we don't realize when we backbite or gossip. Wouldn't it be better if we were to use our precious time and energy on a creative endeavor that fulfills us and makes us happier? And what would happen if, instead of giving in to our fears of lack and losing (which is why we gossip in the first place), we were to think kindly thoughts of our neighbors? That's what will give us the results we truly desire for ourselves.

    Checking my emails and reading an inspirational page from Positive Thoughts is my morning cup of coffee some mornings. I was greeted with something today that I wanted to share.

    'Get Service' Video



    Was any of this familiar? How often are we so rushed that we don't take the time to consider the well-being of others? How often are we short with the lady at the checkout stand because the scanner won't scan an item and she has to call the manager? How about the truck driver making a safe turn and taking up two lanes of traffic to do so? Those are just a couple of examples, but I'm certain that this video probably helped bring to mind a certain situation that you've been in recently that has required a bit of your patience to deal with. How did you handle it? With grace and understanding or with intolerance and hostility? It's easier said than done at first, but patience can be learned once we start viewing others as imperfect creatures and practicing tolerance whenever something happens that is out of our control. Love comes from the understanding that we are dealing with our own trials and a level of compassion and care should be applied before we react too quickly. God bless!
